Reflection post

This semester had been quite a challenge for me, as the subjects were a bit tougher than what I'm used to.
In this assignment, I managed to find out some things that I otherwise would be able to find out on my own, such as the Facebook privacy issues, Internet regulation problems and so on. For example, people could hack and take advantage of our posts in our Facebook accounts and give us a bad name.
Regulation of the Internet has gone quite out of hand several times before, such as the release of nude pictures of Prince Harry, but I believe that the Internet should not be censored as it restricts our freedom of speech and information blockage. This is especially worse given the fact that the Malaysian Board of Censorship can be a bit over-zealous sometimes, like muting out the word "ditch" in an episode of a show I watched. Sometimes in certain cases, I felt as if censorship is completely unnecessary, as children will simply experience it in real life on a day-to-day basis and they should know what is going on in anything they watched. Chopping up dialogues will simply turn off viewers to the show.

Reflection of the whole semester

Media is an interesting subject that plays a major role in any society. As been said by some of my friends here, I agree that media has their own good and bad depending on how people use it. It can be used to spread information and entertainment, but it can also be used to spread lies and propaganda. One example of this are advertisements, where business are promoted but the products are exaggerated just to get the attention of customers to buy them.

We also need to be careful of what information is shown in media as some of them may not be accurate and some information may even be hidden from us. People may even tamper with accurate information and add their own twist to t6he info just to get other people's attention.

As a media student, I felt as if we need to depict our subjects as accurately as possible in order not to cheat or lie to our audiences. Sure, the contents in media nowadays are not as they seem to be, but as the newer generation of media workers, we can change that in order  to provide information and entertainment that are both interesting but accurate as well.
